Saddle Log Program

Rules and Conditions

As revised October 2000

The purpose of this program is to recognize individuals for their efforts in promoting Appaloosas and to encourage riders to keep a log of the number of hours ridden so that their efforts may be rewarded.

1. Participants will maintain a log of hours spent riding or driving Appaloosa horses. A standard log form will be furnished by the Montana Appaloosa Horse Club or the ApHC saddle log form may be used.

2. All hours spent on any type of trail or road can be counted. Also hours spent in an arena for training and/or pleasure can be counted. In addition, hours spent at pleasure harness driving can be included.

3. In order for riding (or driving) time to be considered, the participant must be a member of the Montana Appaloosa Horse Club at the turn each outing is logged.

4. Any registered Appaloosa, including CPO, and unregistered Appaloosas that are colored can be used.

5. When a rider (or driver) has logged 100 hours, a certificate will be issued. When 250 hours, 500 hours, or 750 hours mile-stones have been logged, an appropriate cap will be awarded. When 1000 hours are logged, a jacket will be presented to the participant. More than one year can be used to accumulate hours.

6. For record keeping purposes, the trail riding year shall be from April 1 to August 31 for 1996 and future years it shall run from September 1 to August 31.

7. It will be the participant’s responsibility to maintain their own log, on a standard form.

8. Logs must be submitted to the Montana Appaloosa Horse Club Secretary (or designated point keeper) no later that September 10 to count for that year’s awards.

9. Credit is given to the participant, therefore more than one horse can be used to accumulate hours and a horse may be used by more than one participant.
